Anyone (probably Clare, Dave and Larry) have the JG300 books? Eagle Cal references page 95 and 96. Not being a Luftwaffe guy I am trying to figure out how in the hell to really paint this aircraft. Thinking I don't need to go through the process of painting the RLM 74/75 pattern.

Thoughts?

Not what you want to hear, but the gray overpaint only partially covered the original camoflage. Take a look at the photos on ARC.

Thanks for that link.........I missed that in a search yesterday. That's ok............I can paint the camo, no biggie. The profile in the decal sheet really doesn't help with the painting of the wings.

Why am I having such a mental block on this thing? Cause I don't do Luftwaffe? Not sure how much I should paint on the fuselage sides and top of RLM 74 (darker gray) before doing the rest of the overspraying.

Do the fuselage 75/74 and then overspray the gray. The original camo patern probably showed through to some extent. Just look at it as preshading.

I'm just glad to see you back doing something, and the fact that it's a Messerschmitt blows my mind. Any other "G" questions, let me know, I've got a ton of references.

Your choice seems heavily oversprayed, but this will give you an idea of the factory scheme- although looking at it now, it seems that some of the time the RLM75 on the canopy was skipped and a broad area of RLM74 went all the way from the gun bulges on the cowling to behind the canopy. I think you'll be able to see what you need in these profiles online: http://www.markstyling.com/bf109gs1.htm

Here's another 2 views showing alternatives. Neither seems to correspond to your starboard wing, though.

Guess I can just wing it (LOL) with some sort of scheme for the fuselage. That's my issue........what to do with the sides and top of the fuselage. Doesn't look like there is much left of the sides or top anyway.

This guy's version looks like he stopped with the whole thing painted in RLM 75, did the wings and stabilizers in their RLM 74 patterns and then just did the over spray gray as needed.

I haven't seen photos of the subject so can't comment, but that looks awfully low contrast to me. Maybe that was the point. Here's a profile of a SIMILAR "yellow 7" of JG300 with a lot more old camo showing:
